The Estimator interprets total opening requirements as set forth within contract documents (i.e., plan, specifications, addenda, and other related information) concerning an individual construction project. Uses computer technology and mathematical skills in the formation of the estimate.
Essential Functions
• Analyze project specifications, engineered drawings, scope documents, and site conditions to prepare comprehensive estimates.
• Conduct route reviews and site visits to assess existing aerial and underground infrastructure.
• Perform material takeoffs, labor analysis, and develop itemized bills of materials (BOM) and project schedules.
• Develop high-level and conceptual route designs using aerial, underground, or campus-based OSP pathways.
• Collaborate with Sales Executives and Project Managers to evaluate project feasibility and profitability.
• Assist with pre-bid meetings, RFIs, scope clarifications, and proposal development.
• Draft clear and detailed scopes of work, subcontractor solicitations, and client-facing proposals.
• Coordinate with utility locators, permitting agencies, and engineering consultants.
• Analyze and incorporate vendor/subcontractor quotes; maintain relationships with key suppliers and partners.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and company best practices (NEC, NESC, TIA/EIA, BICSI).
• Maintain historical cost data and pricing databases for continuous improvement.
• Utilize estimation software (e.g., Bluebeam, AutoCAD, D-Tools, GIS) to support accurate takeoffs and designs.
• Manage CRM and/or ERP systems to track bids, pipeline, and forecasting.
• Participate in post-bid reviews and ensure smooth project handoff to operations.
Minimum Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience estimating OSP/fiber infrastructure projects.
• Solid understanding of aerial and underground construction methods, including trenching, boring, and pole line work.
• Ability to read and interpret telecom, civil, and electrical engineering plans.
• Proficiency with estimation and design tools such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, D-Tools, and GIS platforms.
• Strong math, analytical, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Experience working with both private and public sector clients.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines concurrently.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Blueprint/plan reading and specification interpretation
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of door, frame and hardware applications as they relate to UL, fire code, building code, ADA, life safety and other restrictions that relate to the general commercial construction industry
• Excellent oral communication skills and positive interpersonal skills
• Detail oriented, deadline conscience, goal driven, and able to handle all types of scopes of projects

Work Environment
This job operates primarily in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. May occasionally require business travel.
