ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
Located on the Tampa campus, the Communications and Marketing Department provides support for seven academic departments, 12 major research institutes, faculty, and students in the College of Engineering through a multitude of services including, communications, marketing and branding, multimedia design services, writing, social media, media relations, website development and management, events and conferences planning. In addition to the Associate Director of Communications and Marketing, the department comprises a full-time multimedia designer, a full-time marketing and communications specialist, and a part-time writer.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Director of Communications and Marketing serves as the lead communicator and reports to the Dean of the College of Engineering. While working in a collegial, collaborative team environment, the Associate Director is responsible for the development and management of communications and marketing strategic plans and projects that support the mission and strategic goals of the College. The Associate Director provides counsel to the Dean, Associate Deans, and Department Chairs. Additionally, the position manages the department budget and personnel, as well serves as media relations contact, and the central clearing point for consistent identity and branding for the college.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Enhance the College of Engineering brand and image through the development and implementation of marketing and/or public relations strategies that connect to the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the college and university. Enhance college faculty and administrators web-presence visibility and branding with respect to national and local media.
Develop presentations and write speeches to promote the departments and/or colleges at college or USF events. Lead, develop, manage, make recommendations for the development of marketing, communications, advertising, events and strategies to market, promote, and provide information about programs, events, services, projects and/or publications of the College of Engineering. Identify, develop, and market stories that promote and publicize college/university research projects, programs within Engineering, events, student activities, and community outreach efforts. Act as a liaison with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure two-way communication between the College of Engineering and all stakeholders.
Manages the development, maintenance, and content of the College's websites and social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). Oversee the development of publications, at times creating copy and design from start-to-finish such as promotional materials, flyers, brochures and press kits, prepares and presents information to internal and external media sources. Design a comprehensive strategic communication plan that supports the strategic goals of the College of Engineering.
(a) Serves as the USF brand manager and public relations liaison for the College of Engineering. Builds and maintains a strong collaborative relationship with USF News, University Communications and Marketing, and other units across USF.
(b) Responds to request for information from the media and public.
Plans, implements, and manages large special events for the College of Engineering such as the Length of service, college luncheons, and Induction into the Profession Ceremony at the end of each semester.
Responsible for developing and managing departmental operating budget. Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of five years related exempt experience, including two years of experience managing exempt level employees.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
PREFERRED:
* Experience in project management, management of teams and personnel, as well as a high level of understanding and experience with social media is preferable.
* Experience working in a national or local media.
* Project management skills and managerial experience
* Skills in strategic communications planning, brand storytelling, and social media & digital strategies are strongly preferred.
