SUMMARY The Staff Accountant II role involves daily accounting tasks, such as recording transactions, checking account balances, and completing a variety of financial process and reports. The Staff Accountant will actively participate in the month end close process to ensure timely preparation of financial statements as well as to ensure the accuracy of them. It also includes reviewing inventory, labor, and overhead cost calculations and constantly improving these processes. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Work with operations to improve processes and reduce costs through detailed reporting. Monitor and report on profit margins. Determine and update the cost of products. Evaluate old inventory for potential loss. Check raw material costs and usage, including price variance. Compare manufacturing costs to standard costs and report monthly. Update and analyze material cost forecasts monthly and quarterly. Develop strategies to reduce cost discrepancies in materials, labor, and overhead. Improve the accuracy of cost forecasts and analyze differences from actual results. Collaborate with purchasing to reduce inventory through analysis. Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies and report on variances. Monitor the cycle count program. Examine manufacturing costs and make necessary journal entries during month-end closing. Help with month-end closing, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations. Provide necessary financial reports to Corporate Finance. Assisting with forecasting and the annual budget preparation process Supporting our internal and external auditor's requests Liaison with centralized accounts payable to identify and reconcile vendor account discrepancies. Liaison with centralized accounts receivable to identify and reconcile customer account discrepancies. Compliance with all internal controls including adherence to GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley. File sales and use tax returns. Statistics: Interpret and analyze numerical data using statistical methods. Basic algebra: The ability to manipulate symbols and equations to find unknown values, express relationships, and model situations. JOB SKILLS Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, using advanced functions such as VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and SharePoint. Familiarity with cost accounting standards and generally accepted accounting principles. Knowledge of ERP systems, SAP preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ethical behavior when dealing with sensitive financial information. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected during month-end close, as required to meet business needs.
