Job Summary IEEE authors, reviewers, and editors are essential to producing IEEE's information products. Their contributions help create valuable intellectual property that supports IEEE's mission. IEEE's core purpose is to promote technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. Therefore, it is vital that these individuals feel appreciated, engaged, and supported. The primary responsibility of the Author Engagement and Product Support Associate is to support IEEE Publishing Operations' efforts to develop procedures, programs, and educational assets that continually grow, nurture, and sustain these relationships.
The individual will contribute by creating new communication tools for authors and updating existing ones. These communication vehicles include the bi-monthly newsletters for authors and editors, the IEEE Author Center, and the IEEE Editor Portal. Educational videos and resources for authors and reviewers are designed to help them save time and effort throughout their publishing journey with IEEE, and these are freely accessible in the IEEE Author Center. Additionally, educational videos and resources for editors and editorial administrators can be found in the IEEE Editor Portal.
Key Responsibilities
Conducts competitive analysis and research on IEEE and other STM publishing competitors regarding their author tool options.
Assists with quality assurance (QA) testing related to the development of new tools as required.
Ensures online content for authors and editors is current.
Suggests and creates content for two newsletters published every two months; assists with selecting images for the newsletter; and proofreads the newsletter before publication.
Handles alerts from the STM Integrity Hub and assists with misconduct investigations to support senior team members.
Supports ethics investigations as needed.
Provides support to senior team members on special projects, such as assisting in the development of new programs.
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Journalism, English, Communications, related field, or equivalent experience Req
Work Experience
2-4 years directly related experience in an STM publishing/production environment with direct author contact are preferred. Pref
Skills and Requirements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
Strong research skills and a solid background in data analysis.
Knowledge of STM publishing and related platforms, processes, and tools.
General knowledge of online peer review systems and scholarly collaboration networks.
Experience using a Content Management System (CMS) to update online published content.
Ability and flexibility to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Stays updated on technology trends.
Strong management and organizational skills that ensure deadlines are met while fostering a proactive approach to continuous improvement in all areas of job performance.
Skilled at managing multiple priorities while staying focused on deadlines.
The ability to travel 1-3 times per year.
