Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Director of Staff Development (LVN) to oversee the training and professional development of our clinical and non-clinical staff. This role is essential to maintaining the high standards of care and service excellence we provide to our residents. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nursing, a passion for education, and a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements in long-term care.
Key Responsibilities

Staff Education & Training

• Plan, develop, and implement orientation and ongoing education programs for all facility staff.
• Conduct training sessions on a variety of topics, including clinical skills, infection control, resident rights, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Compliance & Documentation

• Ensure that all mandatory training requirements (state, federal, and corporate) are met and properly documented.
• Maintain accurate training records and prepare reports for audits or regulatory inspections.

Curriculum Development

• Create and update training materials, policies, and procedures to reflect current best practices and regulatory guidelines.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs, making improvements as needed to enhance staff learning and competency.

Performance Management & Support

• Collaborate with department heads to identify staff performance gaps and provide targeted training or resources for improvement.
• Serve as a mentor and resource for new hires, providing guidance throughout the onboarding process.

Regulatory & Quality Assurance

• Stay abreast of changes in local, state, and federal regulations that impact staff development and training.
• Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives to uphold the facility's standards of care.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with the Administrator, Director of Nursing, and other department leaders to align training initiatives with the facility's overall goals.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development among all employees.

Qualifications

• Licensure: Current and active California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license.
• Certification: Current Director of Staff Development (DSD) certification in the state of California (or willingness to obtain).
• Experience:
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a skilled nursing facility or long-term care setting.
  • Previous teaching, training, or staff development experience preferred.
• Skills & Attributes:
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation abilities.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., Title 22, CMS regulations).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer applications.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
