Outside Plant Technician III (Finance)

TransCore (TCI), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking an Outside Plant Technician III in Tampa, FL.

Summary: The Outside Plant Technician III is responsible for supporting the Intelligent Transportation System for Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), County, and City contracts. Field tasks may include installation or modification of ethernet switches and fiber devices. Field tasks may also include monitoring other contractor's work, including field inspections to verify that regulations have been met. Other tasks include supporting the fiber networking team through various means including program/configure/deploy/install/troubleshoot network outages and ethernet switches. Special projects will also be assigned, as needed, which may include tasks such as working with new technology, mapping fiber paths, providing fiber allocations, IP addresses, and more. Computer tasks may include using FDOT's ITS Facility Management and online maintenance/inventory systems. The candidate will be required to work outside.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Professional, clear, and effective communication through face to face, email, call and text.
• Monitoring other contractor's work including field inspections.
• Installation, configuration, deploying and troubleshooting ethernet switches and fiber devices.
• Monitoring and supporting network outages.
• Trace and map existing fiber.
• Create fiber assignments and IP addressing for Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks.
• Computer tasks such as FDOT's ITS Facility Management and online maintenance/inventory systems.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Knowledge and experience with routing and switching protocols (e.g. OSPF, Spanning Tree, etc.)
• Typically requires 5-8 years of related experience.
• Must be willing and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Network management uptimes may require overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Must have a valid driver's license and safe driving record; driving is required for the position.
• Strong communication skills.

Education:

• High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
• Two-year college associate degree or technical school or equivalent military training and experience desired.
• Cisco CCNA or equivalent desired.
• IMSA Technician 1 & 2 and Inspector certifications required or ability to obtain within the first six months.

Candidates must successfully complete required background / drug screening that TransCore initiates as part of the hiring process; additionally, successfully complete a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and State Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS) background screen when required.
