The Senior EHS Specialist is responsible for supporting the corporate Safety department. They will work as an integral part of the Regulatory Safety team to create and maintain a culture that reflects a commitment to protecting the health and safety of employees, the environment, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement through program implementation, technical support, training, and tactical execution.

Education & Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental and Public Affairs, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineer or other related field or equivalent demonstrated skills and abilities, required.
• Maintain current certification in DOT/Hazardous Materials.
• Current OSHA 30 hour required.

Job Responsibilities

• Research new health and safety laws, regulations, and best practices to support compliance, benchmarking and continuous improvement activities by disseminating updates on new regulations or upcoming changes to the Safety team that drive strategic decisions.
• Make recommendations to Safety team regarding actions to be taken at the facility level, up to and including new program and process implementation.
• As needed, represent Safety leadership team by facilitating training, implementing existing programs, and conveying a common philosophical approach to employees in new facilities, and in new regional locations.
• Develop and implement approved programs for monitoring and preventing chemical, physical, and biological hazards, and analyze captured data relating to occupational and environmental health issues such as chemical exposure, radiation, fumes, noise, temperatures, dusts, vapors, mists, gases, solvents, lighting, and ergonomics.
• Research processes and evaluate risk for exposure to injury, and of regulatory non-compliance and make recommendations to Safety leadership team.
• Act as subject matter expert, supporting engineering and work with the Environmental group when process modifications or installation of new equipment is made to ensure air, wastewater and/or storm water permits are evaluated/modified, and that equipment meets minimum safety standard.
• Provide regulatory support and information to FWM leadership to maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state and local health and safety laws.
• Drive overall Safety program management specific to, Health and Safety required programs such as SPCC, Hazardous Waste Management, Injury and Incident Prevention, and Industrial Hygiene, with guidance from Safety Manager.
• Perform aspect and impact and job hazard analysis and identify areas of concern; train employees on identified impacts.
• Collaborate with regional leaders to coordinate and facilitate Safety committee meetings; facilitate discussions with support from Safety leadership team and drive related action items resulting from Safety committee meetings.
• Engage employees around Safety hazard identification and mitigation opportunities, including the impact of personal choices on the environment, the workplace and their health, in ways that promote continuous improvement and a safety mindset.
• Facilitate New Employee Orientation and other Safety training not offered through the Learning Management System (LMS). Assist with creating content and materials for job and task-specific training, in collaboration with the Safety leadership team.
• Train and support facility leaders in the scheduling and performance of spill drills, fire and weather drills, and all aspects of emergency preparedness.
• Act as technical and tactical liaison between Safety Engineers and Operations; promote Safety SMEs as resources for continuous improvement.
• Identify and maintain metrics based upon leading indicators which support FWM Strategic goals, Operating Principles, and Ideal Behaviors.
• Perform other duties as requested by management.

Skills Needed

• Must be able to work without close supervision and be capable of self-checking completed work.
• Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office products.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to convey caring while emphasizing accountability.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Fast-paced production environment.
• Frequent travel (up to 40%) to other regional facilities, required.
• Annual travel for training.
• Must be able to access all areas of operation, including second floors.
• Occasional pushing and lifting of up to 30 pounds.
• Frequent bending, reaching and stooping during shift.
